Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is an integral member of the Accounting team who is focused on the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements at Filson. This includes processing general ledger and sub-ledger transactions and reconciling assigned general ledger accounts. The ideal candidate will have strong Excel skills, learn new systems easily, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment with conflicting deadlines. They will be analytical, organized and detail oriented, with excellent problem solving skills. Strong communication skills are a must, as is the ability to work well as part of a team.



  • Assist in month-end closing of the general ledger, including preparation and posting of appropriate journal entries, reserves and accruals; reconciliation of balance sheet accounts as assigned.
  • Ensure that estimates, accruals, reserves and provisions are calculated and supported with appropriate basis or backup, in accordance with US GAAP. 
  • Review trial balance and financial statements for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review journal entries of staff accountants to ensure the appropriateness of all entries prior to posting.
  • Assist with the preparation of state and local tax returns.
  • Assist with annual financial statement audit and federal tax return prepared by external accountants
  • Perform ad hoc research and analysis of information from the accounting system and research complex accounting principles and positions.
  • Prepare internal reports for Management to help track and evaluate Company performance.
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of appropriate documentation for key accounting policies and procedures, including internal controls. Seek to make continuous improvements to processes and procedures where appropriate
  • Other duties as necessary


  •  5+ years of similar, progressive experience in Accounting, month-end closing procedures, reconciliation, and financial statement preparation. 
  • Public accounting experience preferred. 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Experience supervising or managing a team preferred.
  • Experience with consumer products or manufacturing background preferred.
  • CPA license preferred.
  • Strong understanding and application of US GAAP.
  • Strong understanding of the month-end close process.
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image.
  • Good personal skills with the ability to effectively work with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; good time-management, organizational, problem-prevention and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines.
  • Ability to study and apply new information.
