The Jr. Manufacturing Engineer is a great opportunity for recent graduates with a focus in Industrial Engineering, Apparel, Manufacturing, or Product Development. You'll be building foundational skills in this role starting with identifying opportunity and measuring operation cycles on the plant floor. You'll then compile and analyze that data to make cost saving recommendations to the plant manager and improve plant efficiency. Finally you'll take those recommendations and partner with management for hands on implementation with operators on the floor. We need data gatherer, analyzer, implementer who wants to learn and grow the basics of engineering.  

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Production and Engineering, the Jr. Manufacturing Engineer acts as partner and in service to the management staff - advising direction, providing support and analytical expertise. They are responsible for identifying and implementing measurable cost savings initiatives at an annual rate of 3x their salary.

Responsibilities

  • Perform time studies to ensure incentive system accuracy.
  • Improve production line performance
    • Analyze operational steps of bags/garments.
    • Define and implement layouts for various styles.
    • Estimate line output based on standard performance vs operator efficiencies then assign labor and balance production lines based on that analysis.
  • Identify efficiency improvement opportunities in manufacturing within individual operations, propose improvements, estimate annual savings, partner with management and floor staff to implement and enforce.
  • Partner with management staff to define, document, implement and follow-up production procedures (creation of SOPs, visual aids, safety qualifications, training, etc.).
  • Partner with the Sample Department to provide functional support in developing/cost engineering new styles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define opportunities for productivity improvement.  
  • Identify and manage cost saving projects – act as a liaison between all teams within the organization.
  • Understand and work with all machinery while considering improvements that could be made.  
  • Support management staff by advising direction and assisting with cost focused decision making.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • BS with a focus in Industrial Engineering, Apparel, Manufacturing, Product Development or combination of education and experience
  • 1-3 years of manufacturing experience in ‘hands-on’ capacity
  • Experience (or education) in work measurement (time study, MTM, etc.)
  • A passion for both analytics, data collection and working with people.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment, managing multiple projects within deadlines
  • Detail focused with a customer service attitude
  • Must be a team player with exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills, intermediate knowledge of Excel required, Microsoft Office Suite a plus
  • Ability to read, write and speak English -- Multi-Lingual in Cantonese, Vietnamese or Mandarin a plus
  • MS Excel, Math and Logic skills required
  • Experience with Leather Goods a plus

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to view small details within 2 feet to inspect quality of products coming through cutting room and on the production floor
